How does Hezkue sildenafil oral spray work?
Hezkue contains the medicine sildenafil which if effective helps increase blood flow into the penis to allow for improved and more sustainable erections when sexually aroused.
Why choose Hezkue sildenafil oral spray?
Sildenafil is a tried and tested medicine which helps treat men with ED who are unable to get or keep an erection suitable for sex. The suspension offers a quicker response to the tablets as gets absorbed within 5 minutes and reaches its peak concentration at 20 minutes. Variable doses can be used depending on response. It has been shown to produce higher concentrations than sildenafil tablets so may be more effective for those men who require more effect. The liquid is mint flavoured and does not require water to take. The medication will work for up to 4 hours and requires sexual stimulation to have effect.
How to take Hezkue sildenafil oral spray
Hezkue is for oral use only and is supplied in a bottle with a pump and nozzle attachment that should be applied before usage.
The bottle should be shaken for 20 seconds before usage and then the pump and nozzle applied. Before each use, the pump needs to be primed and activated by pressing the pump 3 times and this liquid discarded. The bottle is placed next to the chin with your mouth open and the dosage pump pressed the number of times needed for the dosage required and the liquid swallowed. After use remove the pump and replace the lid. It is recommended to wash the pump and nozzle with water and allow to dry before next use.
The patient information leaflet advises to take it an hour before sexual activity to comply with long term data regarding sildenafil, however studies have shown that Hezkue sildenafil suspension acts more quickly, with peak concentrations at 20 minutes.
Hezkue sildenafil dosage
The usual starting dose is 4 pumps, 2ml (50mg sildenafil). The flexible dosing allows a lower dose of 2 pumps, 1ml (25mg) if experiencing side effects or a lower dose is effective or a gradual increase to the maximum dose of 8 pumps, 4ml (100mg) if needed. It is recommended that you try a dose on 6 separate occasions before increasing the dosage or trying an alternative treatment. It should only be taken once in 24 hours.
Hezkue can be taken with or without food but it may take longer to work if taken with a heavy meal. Alcohol can also impair your ability to have an erection so it is advised not to drink heavily when using this spray.
Who can not take Hezkue sildenafil oral spray
Men should not take Hezkue sildenafil oral spray when the following apply:
- Allergy to sildenafil.
- Active heart disease including heart attack or angina (chest pain on exertion) within 90 days.
- History of stroke or mini stroke (transient ischaemic attack) within the last 6 months.
- History of vision problems due to poor circulation.
- Family history of the degenerative eye disease, including retinitis pigmentosa (rare).
- Severe kidney or liver disease.
- Deformity or angulation of the penis (Peyronie's disease).
- Sickle cell disease or leukaemia or multiple myeloma.
- A bleeding disorder (such as haemophilia).

Other medications and Hezkue sildenafil oral spray
Hezkue sildenafil oral spray should not be taken with the following medications as in some cases it can cause a severe and potentially life threatening reaction:
- Nitrates for angina or heart failure eg GTN spray, isosorbide mononitrate
- Recreational drugs, particularly amyl nitrate ('Poppers').
- Riociguat for high blood pressure in the lungs.
- Alpha-blockers (high blood pressure or prostate enlargement) usually ending '-osin' - includes alfuzosin, doxazosin, indoramin, prazosin, tamsulosin, terazosin.
- Entresto (sacubitril/valsartan).
- Antibiotics erythromycin and clarithromycin.
- Antifungal treatment ending '-azole' - including ketoconazole, itraconazole.
Possible side effects of Hezkue sildenafil oral spray
Most men tolerate sildenafil well however there are some possible side effects. Those affecting up to 1 in 10 men include headache, nausea, facial flushing, hot flush, indigestion, colour tinge to vision, blurred vision, stuffy nose, and dizziness.
A complete list of side effects can be found in the manufacturer's patient information leaflet.
Allergic type reactions, chest pains or fits, all of which are very rare, require immediate medical attention. Prolonged (4 hours or more) painful erections, a medical condition called priapism, is rare but also requires immediate medical attention.
It is advised to monitor your response to the medication before driving or operating heavy machinery.
Alternative ED treatments
There is currently no alternative liquid. Alternative tablets include Viagra (sildenafil), Cialis (tadalafil), vardenafil, and Spedra (avanafil). They work in the same way, but take different lengths of time before they are effective and work for different lengths of time. See our comparison table for further information.
If ED is caused by severely restricted circulation or damage to the nervous system, tablets may not help.
Alternative non-tablet treatments include treatments that are applied directly to the penis such as Vitaros cream, but these have not been shown to be as effective. Men may also benefit from counselling, particularly if stress and performance anxiety are present. Please discuss with your GP if you need further advice.
If sildenafil is taken in combination with recreational drugs, particularly cocaine, there is an increased risk of adverse effects, particularly prolonged painful erections, which can lead to permanent damage to the penis (priapism).
Patient Information Leaflet
The Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) is the leaflet included in the pack with a medicine and must be read before taking the medicine. It is written for patients and gives information about taking or using a medicine.
Hezkue sildenafil oral spray FAQs
How do I store Hezkue sildenafil oral spray?
There are no special requirements for storage of Hezkue sildenafil oral spray and it does not need to be kept in a fridge. However, as with all medicines, it is advised to keep in a safe and secure location, away from children and pets.
How long will a bottle of Hezkue sildenafil oral spray last?
The liquid inside the bottle will remain active for up to 10 months, after this it should be discarded and may not be effective. It is recommended that you write the date on the bottle when it is opened as a reminder for yourself. Depending on the dosage that you are taking, it can provide 20 doses of 25mg sildenafil or 10 doses if taking 50mg sildenafil.
Why are there only 20 doses in a 30ml bottle of Hezkue sildenafil Oral Spray?
Each spray contains 12.5mg of sildenafil in 0.5ml of liquid and the lowest recommended dosage is 25mg/2 pumps. As the pump needs to be primed before each use, there will be a small amount of product used up to do this. This ensures you get the correct dosage with each pump used. The approximate volume available for patient use is 20ml in each 30ml bottle.
