About Mounjaro weight loss injections
Mounjaro is a once-weekly weight loss injection containing the active ingredient tirzepatide. It is prescribed to help eligible adults lose weight alongside healthy eating and regular physical activity.
Mounjaro comes as an easy-to-use pre-filled KwikPen. The injection is given just once a week using a very small needle and most people find it becomes part of their routine quickly.
How do Mounjaro weight loss injections work?
Mounjaro works by mimicking two naturally occurring gut hormones called GIP and GLP-1.
These hormones are released after eating and help regulate appetite, food intake and blood sugar levels. By copying their actions, Mounjaro can help you:
- Feel less hungry
- Feel fuller for longer after meals
- Reduce food cravings
- Eat smaller portions more comfortably
- Lose weight when used alongside healthy lifestyle changes
Many people notice their appetite reducing within the first few weeks of treatment, although weight loss results vary between individuals.
How to use Mounjaro weight loss injections
Mounjaro is injected under the skin once a week, ideally on the same day each week.
The injection can be given into your:
- Stomach (abdomen)
- Thigh
- Upper arm
The pen can be used at any time of day, with or without food.
If you are new to injections, don't worry. The pen is designed to be simple to use and comes with full instructions. Most people become comfortable using it after their first few doses.
We recommend rotating injection sites each week to help avoid irritation.
Mounjaro Dosages

Frequently Asked Questions
How much weight can I lose on Mounjaro?
Weight loss varies between individuals. Clinical studies have shown that Mounjaro can help people achieve significant weight loss when used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Your results will depend on factors such as your starting weight, lifestyle and adherence to treatment.
What should I do if I miss a Mounjaro injection?
If you miss a dose, follow the instructions in the Patient Information Leaflet. Do not take an extra dose to make up for a missed injection. If you are unsure what to do, contact your healthcare professional for advice.
Can I switch from Wegovy to Mounjaro?
Some people may be able to switch from Wegovy to Mounjaro following assessment by a healthcare professional. The medicines use different active ingredients and dosing schedules, so any switch should be supervised by your prescriber to ensure treatment remains safe and effective.
Why am I not losing weight on Mounjaro?
Weight loss with Mounjaro varies from person to person and may not happen at the same rate for everyone.
There are several reasons why weight loss may be slower than expected, including:
- Being early in treatment and not yet reaching a maintenance dose
- Not experiencing a significant reduction in appetite
- Consuming high-calorie foods or drinks despite eating smaller portions
- Limited physical activity
- Medical conditions that can affect weight, such as an underactive thyroid
- Taking medicines that may contribute to weight gain
It is also common for weight loss to slow after an initial period of success. This does not necessarily mean that treatment has stopped working.
Mounjaro works best when combined with healthy eating habits and regular physical activity.
