Thank you for your review and sorry to hear you experienced issues. Increased light sensitivity that can lead to sunburn is listed in the patient leaflet as a possible side effect when taking doxycycline. Atovaquone/proguanil (Malarone) is also currently recommended for malaria prevention when visiting Gambia and may suit you better.

The outer capsule used for the drug gave me Esophagitis, which burnt my throat and now I have consistent heartburn.

Thank you for your review and very sorry to hear of your symptoms. The capsule is swallowed whole with water and should not have prolonged contact with the throat. Please contact your GP or our doctors if medical advice is required.
