Excluding pregnancy

Pregnancy can be reasonably excluded if there are no signs and symptoms of pregnancy and:

  • You have not had sex since your last period, or since childbirth, abortion, miscarriage, or ectopic pregnancy.
  • You have used a reliable alternative method of contraception correctly and consistently.
  • You are within the first 5 days of the start of a normal (natural) menstrual period.
  • You are less than 21 days after giving birth (non-breastfeeding women).
  • You are fully breastfeeding, not having periods and less than 6 months after giving birth.
  • You are within the first 5 days after abortion, miscarriage, or ectopic pregnancy.
  • You have had a negative urine pregnancy test done at least 3 weeks after the last episode of unprotected sexual intercourse.
