Dr Fox started to receive numerous enquiries about sildenafil, it&#8217;s cost and availability.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"button button--large button--no-padding mb_20\" href=\"\/erectile-dysfunction\/sildenafil.html\">Buy treatment\u00a0<span class=\"button--pill button--pill--large icon-cart\"><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Generic Viagra\/sildenafil manufacturers<\/h2>\n<p>We stood ready on Friday 21 June at the Dr Fox offices, poised to add details of the newly licenced versions at much lower prices to our range of treatments available for <a href=\"\/erectile-dysfunction\/\">Erectile Dysfunction<\/a> &#8230; but no information was forthcoming from the pharmacy wholesalers.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/generic_sildenafil.png\" alt=\"generic sildenafil\" \/><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Over the weekend we received a price list for sildenafil that was not much lower cost than Pfizer&#8217;s own-brand Viagra \u2013 saving the customer on average \u00a32 on a \u00a324\u2013\u00a340 order. Unimpressed we added the generic sildenafil as an order option with the slightly lower price. Not surprisingly many users of our service contacted us to enquire if we had made some kind of mistake.<\/p>\n<p>By the following Tuesday sensible pricing was made available from the wholesalers: 66p per pack of 4 x 25mg; 85p per pack of 4 x 50mg; 94p per pack of 4 x 100mg. Sildenafil now cost a fraction of the price of Viagra and we immediately updated Dr Fox <a href=\"\/erectile-dysfunction\/sildenafil.html\">pricing for generic sildenafil<\/a> treatment options.<\/p>\n<p>So far our wholesalers have available sildenafil from the following generic manufacturers \u2013 almost all are priced exactly the same, except for Actavis which was significantly higher:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandoz.com\/\"><strong>Sandoz<\/strong><\/a> (Sandoz sildenafil)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandoz.com\/\"><strong>Accord<\/strong><\/a> (Accord sildenafil)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tevauk.com\/\"><strong>TEVA<\/strong><\/a> (TEVA sildenadfil)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mylan.co.uk\"><strong>Mylan<\/strong><\/a> (Mylan sildenafil)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zentiva.com\/\"><strong>Zentiva<\/strong><\/a> (Zentiva sildenafil)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.torrentpharma.co.uk\/\"><strong>Torrent<\/strong><\/a> (Torrent sildenafil)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We expect many more manufacturers to make their own versions available over the next few weeks and months. Peculiarly, pricing of their own generic version is not very much lower than that of branded Viagra, despite being exactly the same ingredients.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone mt_20\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/pfizer_sildenafil.jpg\" alt=\"pfizer sildenafil\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Sildenafil on the NHS<\/h2>\n<p>The widely-held expectation is that the market for sildenafil will grow as the treatment becomes more affordable. Viagra was restricted on the NHS due to cost and GPs generally only prescribed a few tablets per month and generally only on a private paid-for basis.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In June 2013, only men with the following conditions were entitled to the drug on an NHS prescription (meaning they only had to pay the prescription charge).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>diabetes<\/li>\n<li>multiple sclerosis \u2013 a condition that affects the body&#8217;s actions and activities, such as movement and balance<\/li>\n<li>Parkinson\u2019s disease \u2013 a condition that affects the way the brain co-ordinates body movements, including walking, talking and writing<\/li>\n<li>polio \u2013 a condition that can cause severe muscle paralysis (lack of movement)<\/li>\n<li>prostate cancer \u2013 the prostate is a small gland between the penis and the bladder<\/li>\n<li>a severe pelvic or spinal injury<\/li>\n<li>spina bifida \u2013 a series of birth defects that affect the development of the spine and nervous system<\/li>\n<li>certain genetic conditions, such as Huntington&#8217;s disease<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><cite>From NHS website: <em>Viagra prices to drop \u2013 sales expected to grow<\/em><\/cite><\/p>\n<p><strong>Update:<\/strong> As of 1 August 2014 the <a href=\"\/news\/sildenafil-on-the-nhs\/\">prescribing restrictions for sildenafil have been scrapped<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Other effects of the Viagra patent expiry<\/h2>\n<p>Given the price of sildenafil is now very low we would expect more GPs to start issuing NHS prescriptions for sildenafil. We also expect some users of Cialis and Levitra to switch to sildenafil due to its lower price.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/sildenafil_teva_50mg.jpg\" alt=\"sildenafil teva 50mg\" \/>Although the patent expiry affected only Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Ireland, Austria, Belgium and Denmark, Dr Fox are able to dispense and post generic sildenafil (TEVA and Actavis brands only) to any <a href=\"\/delivery.html#countries\">EU country<\/a> that permits online ordering of prescription medicine.
