cialis older menThe use of Cialis (Tadalafil) and Sildenafil is associated with an increase incidence of STD (sexually transmitted disease) in older age groups according to research from Harvard University. A study looked at the health insurance claims of men in the US over 40.

Researchers found the incidence to STDs to be three times higher in older men who used erectile dysfunction drugs. However, these men were also more likely to have had STDs in the year before they started taking Cialis and Sildenafil. The results suggest men who use erectile dysfunction drugs may, as a group, be at higher risk. (more…)

Azithromycin chlamydia treatment

Azithromycin for chlamydia is a single dose antibiotic. It is the standard antibiotic treatment for chlamydia in the UK.

Azithromycin is effective in nearly all cases. There is little antibiotic resistance. The treatment involves taking only a single dose of antibiotic. Forgetting to take doses or forgetting to finish a course of treatment is not an issue.

Doxycycline

Doxycycline is a broad spectrum antibiotic developed by Pfizer in the 1960s. It is part of the tetracycline group of antibiotics and is thought to work by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. The best-known brand name of doxycycline is vibramycin although it is normally prescribed by the generic (proper drug name) of doxycyclines.

Dr Fox supplies doxycycline at a dose of 100mg twice daily for 7-days as a treatment for chlamydia and at a dose on 100mg daily for malaria prevention. For malaria prophylaxis (prevention) in areas where it is recommended doxycycline is started 1-2 days before exposure to malaria and continued for 4 weeks after exposure. (more…)

Chlamydia test – test on urine – samples collected at home

Chlamydia often produces no symptoms, particularly in women. It is the commonest sexually transmitted disease found in the UK. The symptoms of chlamydia vary and often go unnoticed.

Dr Fox supplies chlamydia test kits in the post. Included in the test kit is a pot for a urine sample. A urine sample is collected at home. This sample is posted to a laboratory in the envelope provided. The cost of the chlamydia test kit covers the cost of carrying out the test and the cost of returning the test result. (more…)
