Treatment of erectile dysfunction has been changed beyond all recognition in the last few decades. Safe and reliable treatment is now at hand for most men who need it.
The pharmaceutical giant Pfizer has recently won a court battle against Israeli pharmaceutical manufacturer Teva to maintain its patent on Viagra. The original patent on the popular erectile dysfunction drug was issued in the early 1990s and was due to expire in 2012.
Had Pfizer failed in their legal bid it would have opened the floodgates for legal generic Viagra and made a serious dent in Pfizer’s profits ($1 billion sales of Viagra in the US alone).
Dr Fox has teamed up with a new company, Red Box Healthcare Ltd, to help patients get treatment in easier ways.
A few months ago Boots and Tesco set up systems to allow their pharmacists to supply prescription medication, such as the erectile dysfunction medication, Viagra and the anti-malaria tablet Malarone, without a doctor’s prescription.

Viagra was developed and is marketed by the Pfizer pharmaceutical company and has been available for use since 1998. The use of Cialis (Tadalafil) and Sildenafil is associated with an increase incidence of STD (sexually transmitted disease) in older age groups according to research from Harvard University. A study looked at the health insurance claims of men in the US over 40.
Researchers found the incidence to STDs to be three times higher in older men who used erectile dysfunction drugs. However, these men were also more likely to have had STDs in the year before they started taking Cialis and Sildenafil. The results suggest men who use erectile dysfunction drugs may, as a group, be at higher risk. (more…)
